Because not every student can join FRC teams due to lack of FRC teams or lack of student time, FRC4188 shares the questions that FRC teams face each year for use in the classroom. It is based on our own programs and as the “advanced” version of the Tech It Out program. The questions take the form of a practice AP exam, and it’s being offered again as an option on Chief Delphi. CSP students traditionally score 4s and 5s on AP exams so this is an option that we have offered to other FIRST students since 2018.
The history of our Tech It Out program includes for the oldest and most experienced students a set of physics problems based on questions that FRC teams face during the Build season. It’s a set of projects that teachers can make available to bring students outside of FIRST into the thought process that FRC students face each year. After five years at Columbus High, we started offering these questions to Georgia FIRST students, and we’ve offered it to all of FIRST for four years.
In 2020 for example, CSP students prepared for multiple shooting locations on the field and balanced climbing with physics training in the AP Mechanics classroom. These allowed CSP to have advantages for multiple game play opportunities. Teams should not be surprised when CSP asks questions in preparation even for qualifications.
Since 2018, CSP has offered practice exams in AP Physics C (Mechanics), AP Physics C (Electricity & Magnetism), AP Computer Science, and AP Physics I.
Available on April 15, 2022: Students get copies of the practice exams on Chief Delphi or by contacting CSP directly. You can access the four practice tests and their scoring by seeing https://sites.google.com/view/csp4188/home
